Choose by how many more Michigan winters you'll own the car.

• Turning it in or selling within a year: the 1-year coating covers the time it's yours. It's also the lowest-priced way to try a coating.
• Driving it daily for several more winters: the 3-year coating fits most commuter and family cars.
• Keeping it for the long haul: the 5-year coating means re-coating less often. Put it on corrected paint; the 3-step bundle includes a full correction.

Most of our customers pick the 1-year or 3-year coating. Most owners don't keep a car longer than three years. A coating doesn't add value to a car; it helps hold that value while it's theirs. Any life left over goes to the next owner.

Why 3 years suits a Michigan daily driver

Road salt is the reason. Each salty week leaves a film on the paint, and every wash to remove it risks fresh fine scratches. On coated paint, that film lets go with less rubbing, so winter washing leaves fewer marks. You still wash the car, but each wash is gentler on the paint.

A 3-year coating is expected to carry that benefit through several winters. You don't re-coat every year, as you would with the 1-year. And you don't pay for 5 years on a car you may not keep that long.

The years are not a warranty

Each number is expected life with proper care, so treat it as a target: how the car is washed and stored moves it. We go over aftercare with you at pickup.

Why most cars need paint correction first (and what the bundles cost)

A coating preserves your paint exactly as it is. Any swirls or scratches end up sealed under a hard layer for years. So correct the paint first, then coat it.

You can also book paint correction by itself. For a coupe, 1-step starts at $350, 2-step at $550 and 3-step at $800. Every correction finishes with a sealant. A sealant alone tends to let wash swirls creep back. Add a coating if you want the correction to hold for years.

When a coating on its own is enough

A coating on its own suits paint that comes through our inspection clean, with few or no light wash scratches (marring). Its prep already includes a light polish.

New doesn't always mean clean, though. Dealer prep and transport leave light swirls on most new cars. We inspect first and correct as needed, and on a new car that correction is usually a light one. We'll tell you which option your car needs, including when a coating on its own is enough.

Add-on coatings and other price factors

Beyond size, three things change your total: paint condition, paint color and any extra coatings you add. We check all three at inspection and put them in the quote.

• Paint condition. Oxidation and deeper defects call for more correction stages, and each stage adds work.
• Paint color. Black and very dark paint show every flaw, so correcting them takes more passes. Depending on severity, that can mean an upcharge. You'll see it in the quote, not at pickup.

Plan for the cure
